Kidney stones Introduction

Kidney stones, also known as renal calculi, are formed within the urinary tract and are composed of salts and minerals. They range in size from small like sand particles to large like ping pong balls and can occur anywhere in the urinary tract. Initially tiny, they grow larger with time. Urine moves from the kidneys to the bladder through a tube called the ureter. Depending on the stone's size, it can cause extreme pain, bleeding, and blockage of the ureter.
